Reputable am law firm in Santa Monica is seeking an experienced Legal Practice Assistant (Litigation Secretary) to provide high-level support to attorneys working across Labor & Employment defense, subrogation, and commercial litigation matters. This role is ideal for a proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, especially during trial cycles.


Why the Position Is Open

The team is preparing for upcoming trials in both subrogation and L&E matters. The Legal Practice Assistant will initially support two trial-focused attorneys, with the possibility of adding or switching attorney assignments after trial work concludes. This desk also includes supporting commercial litigation attorneys across other offices, as the firm's trial teams work collaboratively and cross-functionally.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive litigation secretarial support to trial-focused attorneys.
  • Prepare, revise, and format legal documents including pleadings, discovery, briefs, and trial binders.
  • Handle State and Federal e-filings with accuracy and compliance with court rules.
  • Manage calendars, deadlines, and docketing via BEC (similar to CompuLaw).
  • Assist with trial preparation, including exhibit lists, witness files, filings, and document management.
  • Coordinate with attorneys in other offices as part of multi-office trial teams.
  • Maintain and organize electronic files in iManage.
  • Draft correspondence, manage attorney time entries, and execute administrative tasks as needed.
  • Support attorneys using Office 365 and apply firm-approved styles and templates.

Top Three Requirements

  1. 5+ years of civil litigation defense experience (L&E experience strongly preferred)
  2. Strong trial preparation background, including trial binders, scheduling, and filings
  3. State & Federal e-filing proficiency, with expert knowledge of court rules and procedures
